The British Open is under way, and you can wager at online sportsbooks.

The four-day British Open golf tournament, or The Open Championship as it is officially known, is underway at Lancashire's Royal Lytham & St Annes Gold Club, and online sportsbooks bring you all the betting action you need.

What odds a maiden winner?

Webb Simpson became the ninth consecutive maiden Major winner in a row when he recently took the US Open title, and William Hill are now offering 1/2 odds that the Open Championship is also a major victory. The bookmaker is quoting 6/4 on a previous major winner taking the title.

The variety of winners on the golf majors stage in the past few years has been fascinating for fans of the sport, and has also made betting on the contests increasingly attractive. This is evident in the range of wagering options Hill, bet365, 888Sport and others are able to offer their customers.

British Open title odds

William Hill's odds for the 141st Open Championship, with a few days to the beginning of the tournament, are as follows: Tiger Woods, 7/1, Lee Westwood, 14/1, Rory Mcllroy,  Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, 16/1, Phil Mickelson, 28/1, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Justine Rose, Sergio Garcia, all 33/1.

With just two majors left for the year, Tiger Woods is now down to 20/1 odds of winning two major in 2012, 10/3 of winning one, and 1/5 for none. Other leading golfers Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald feature in William Hill's individual player specials.
