The European Sports Security Association (ESSA) is a community watchdog which focuses on maintaining the integrity, trust and reputation of sports betting and the people who are engaged with it.

ESSA was established in 2005 by several leading online sports book operators throughout Europe. The goal is to monitor irregular gambling patterns and/or insider betting on sports outcomes.

The European Sports Security Association places a great deal of emphasis on improving the dissemination of information between sports books and sports organizations. While there is tremendous media hype around malfeasance in sports betting, the issue is actually minimal overall.

Today, ESSA's members include multiple large operators such as bwin, Sportingbet, Expekt.com, BetClic, PartyGaming, Stanleybet and now more recently Ladbrokes.
