General:

Laser is popular with retailers in the Republic of Ireland as it allows them to receive a higher proportion of electronic transactions relative to paper transactions (e.g. cheques), which lowers administration and cash security costs in the long run.

There are over 2.5million Laser Cards in circulation and 130million transactions worth an €9.1billion were carried out on those cards in 2007.

Facts:

• Accepting a higher proportion of payment card transactions in place of cash or cheque payments helps reduce administration and security costs
• Over two million customers now carry a Laser Card in Ireland and they all expect to use Laser wherever they go
• Laser card transactions are completed on the same point of sale terminal as other payment card transactions.
