The friendly service that Pagat provides is made clear from the moment we arrived at the site. A short and concise homepage with the categories presented with clarity and in large readable font. But what's behind this pleasant appearance?

Pagat, we can clearly state, provides all things related to card games, simple as that. Its professional, worldly and unpretentious attitude are evident already by the site's name; the word "Pagat" is derived from the term given to the lowest ranking trump in Tarock card games.

Pagat publishes rules of hundreds of card games from around the world. Its focus is on what it calls traditional card games, for two or more players, as distinguished from solitaire games for one player, commercial games that require special equipment (such as board games), and invented games.

To cover the endless versions and variations of these games, the site's chief operator, John McLeod, humbly invited his visitors and users to contribute their own input.

A special note for online card game players and gamblers is in place. Pagat does not focus on online games, and does not provide software for installation. It does, however, include links to other sites that do so.

Games included on Pagat are Chinese and Western Dominoes, Rummy tiles, and more, all listed alphabetically. Additionally, it includes sources of cards and equipment, card game books, discussion groups, tournaments and meetings, gambling and casinos, resources for game designers, and much more.
