Recent developments, namely the legal ban on gambling activity in the United States, have shaken the business into looking beyond America, and the rest of the world. The numbers show that the challenge was met, at least for now.

Even in a season that is traditionally better for land based casinos than for websites, a period of summer vacations and visits, the business has seen an increase in revenues compared to the same period last year. Of this increase, income from non-US players showed an especially impressive surge. One large operator has reported earnings from non-US operations rose 20 percent in the third quarter of 2006.

While operators are in the process of shutting down their US operations, they are simultaneously diversifying both their geographical spread and product range. Cash reserves and early positive signs allow for and justify devoting resources to new markets in Asia, South America and even untapped markets in Europe. It has been a long time since the gambling world has taken advantage of the Internet and moved online. Now, a new critical era is upon us. People are waiting for Internet gambling to reach them, and wise management and vision can help make of this another positive chapter to look back on one day with a smile.
