Americans Want to Play On

It is clear that they would very much like to do so, but truly no one can tell what time will bring. But for now, a couple of months into the year 2007 and several months since the ban was passed by the US Congress that prohibits online gambling, it remains Americas hottest past time. Gambling has always been a popular pastime in the US. Trips to Las Vegas have been a greatly anticipated family, friends and couples' vacation year in and year out. Therefore, with the move from land based casinos to online gambling, which made this already popular pastime much more accessible and available, it is no wonder that Americans are not willing to give up on it so soon. With a comfortable seat or sofa, a computer and an Internet connection, players may gamble anytime, anywhere. As far as the law enforcement authorities, they see the business growing popularity as a problem. As one FBI special agent said, online gambling is a growing problem, I think the FBI estimates that its growing at a rate of $10 billion a year. Enormous sums, especially considering that the industry is currently illegal. What we are driving at, you must have already guessed, is that the US should look at gambling through a new perspective. Such multibillion sums should be a source of revenue from taxes. A hard headed approach will lead you nowhere. |
Ban or no ban, gamblers make it clear online gambling is not going away so quickly. Americans of all ages, of both sexes and all walks of life have been gambling before the ban passed in the fall of 2006, are continuing to gamble today and will very likely continue gambling in the future.
