Following his dramatic win against Rocco Mediate at last year's US Open, Tiger Woods is once again set to repeat history to capture the renowned golfing title. Woods is a 7/4 favorite at William Hill Sports entering day 1.

Last year, even with a damaged leg, the living golf legend was able to out-putt the famous Pennsylvanian, who has also suffered his own share of injury problems. Can Tiger go for the double? Bookies seem to think so.

A win at this year's game would also give Woods his fourth Open victory, which would tie him in with four wins by Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus.

Potential Woods-Mickelson Showdown
The New York hamlet town of Bethpage is the setting for the historical battle between the world's golfing giants. Next on the leader board after Tiger Woods is Phil Mickelson, a 20/1 favorite at Will Hill.

Mickelson is another crowd pleaser who puts everything into his game. Sadly, personal tragedy may affect his game this year following his recent announcement that his wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. However, Mickelson is a 100% pro, and a showdown between him and Woods would be electric. He also has a huge following in the New York area, and will undoubtedly be cheered on by his many supporters.

Other Contenders
As they say, it ain't over until the lady of unusually large proportions starts singing, and there's no guarantee that either Woods or Mickelson will end up holding the Open trophy. Aussie Geoff Ogilvy is tied with Mickelson with 20/1 odds at the UK sportsbook.

Other names in the running for the win are Jim Furyk, Jim Casey and Irishman Padraig Harrington.

Tee Offs to Watch
The battle commences today at 8:06 am with Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods teaming up with Angel Cabrera, which is certainly going to draw the crowds. Phil Mickelson starts his game in the afternoon, teaming up with South Africans Retief Goosen and Ernie Els.
