This has been a year of great uncertainty for online poker, but good news stories like that of young British player Jake Cody remind us of the opportunities online poker still offers. Humble Beginnings

In an interview with poker journal Bluff Europe, Cody, who is still in his early twenties, said he began playing online poker with a $10 deposit, and has never needed to deposit since - he has always had winnings to play with. This is poker career start that most of us could only dream of, and is a clear sign of Cody's natural abilities, which he works hard to enhance.

Improving Online

Cody says he consistently uses the internet as a resource to improve his game. He plays poker for a several hours a day, reads about poker strategy, contributes to online poker forums and discusses hands and tactics with fellow poker players.

A WSOP Bracelet and Player of the Year

Cody's efforts have clearly paid off. Since storming onto the tournament scene in 2010 and claiming several big wins, he took home his first WSOP bracelet in June this year. The British Poker Awards in early September rightly paid homage to his achievements, naming him Best Tournament Player and Player of the Year. Notably, nearly all the awards went to young players in their twenties, all very much part of the internet poker generation.
