In order to snap out of the depression she was in, Sherman along with her sister Clarissa decided to take their mind off things and gamble at the Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in Lafayette, LA. That decision has proven to be life altering for Jacquelyn, who managed to win more than $1.6 million playing the Wheel of Fortune.

When they first entered the casino Jacquelyn told her sister that if she needed her, she would be able to find her at the Wheel of Fortune machine. Moments after inserting her $20 into the machine, she won. Jacquelyn immediately called her sister telling her to meet her at the area designated for the Wheel of Fortune machine. Upon arriving there, Clarissa witnessed her sister surrounded by casino security guards.

She then asked her sister if something had happened. Initially, she was worried that her sister damaged the machine somehow. She was then told by the security guards on hand that her sister had won more than $1 million. Mike Howard, a general manager at the casino commented, This is the most exciting thing that could happen for Ms. Sherman. Lady Luck has blessed Jacquelyn. Howard also added, This is great for the industry, the property and our form of entertainment. It's like catching lightning in a jar.
