Where the House Never Wins

For one night, this dream came true for the people who visited the Bluff's Run Casino in Iowa. They soon discovered that one machine had a whopping payout rate of 400% every time you put money into it. I´m not talking about a slot machine or even a video poker machine. Oddly enough, the machine I´m referring to is a bill-changing machine.
When you insert a $100 bill into a bill-changing machine, you would naturally assume that the machine will give you back five $20 bills. Fortunately for the people who were at the casino that night, this machine did just the opposite. People who tried to break a $100 got five $100s, instead of $20s. The secret was out quickly, and people were lining up to break their $100s. The malfunction went undetected for about six hours, when the staff finally realized that the machine is missing about $47,000! As it turns out, one of the employees didn´t load the machine correctly, which is why it was spitting out $100s instead of $20s. As a result of this incident, the employee lost his job. However, an administrative law judge granted the employee full unemployment benefits, determining that there was no evidence of foul-play and that nothing was done deliberately. Meantime, the casino management tried to go over the security tapes of that night in an attempt to recover some of the money, but to no avail. |
Every gambler´s fantasy is to play at a casino where the house never wins. We all dream about such casinos, where each time you pull the handle of a slot machine, you win the jackpot.
