Understanding Casino Comps
Adjust font size:
The casino takes care of everything for them. A casino uses comps to lure the big fishes, and to prevent them form spending their money elsewhere. To make sure you continue gambling and to keep you coming back, it´s in their best interest to accommodate you as best as they can. Each casino uses a different tracking system to calculate the players´ comps, but it´s usually reserved for high rollers only. So what if you are not a high roller, how would you go about getting these comps? There are a few things you can do to get comps even if you don´t play for huge sums of money.
The first thing you need to realize is that you shouldn´t rely on the casino to offer you comps of its own volition. If you feel you have earned them, you should take the initiative and ask for them yourself. It goes without saying that playing with chump-change won´t entitle you to such perks. However, if you have been playing at the tables or slot machines for an extended period, grab one of the casino employees and politely ask for a comp. You should be realistic when making your requests; don´t expect the casino to pick up the tab for your entire stay just because you spent a few hundreds at the craps tables. However, that sum might entitle you to a free cocktail. The other thing you can do is to cultivate some kind of personal relationship with the casino hosts and pit bosses. A friendly chit-chat with the right people goes a long way in a casino. Talk to them about the casino, and tell them the wonderful things you have heard about their establishment. It will get you some face recognition, which is a valuable commodity in a casino. At some point in time, they will probably give you their card, which means that you have made the right connection. Who knows, they might even offer you some free stuff. |
A comp is short for complimentary. Based on the amount of money you spend at the tables, the casino may want to show its appreciation by treating you to stuff like free food, free cocktails, and free shows (especially in Vegas). For instance, at land based casinos in Las Vegas, high rollers usually don´t have pay for their hotel room.
