At its core, an affiliate program helps boost traffic to online casinos and brings in web surfers, curious readers and new players too. For Many site operators, this is their lifeblood. It is arguable that without the affiliate programs, they would not have nearly as many players as they do.

One source on the net that studies market forces and the industry as a whole has recently reported that the profits for operators have shot up from $82.7 million in 2001 to $2.4 billion in 2005. It is said that 1.8 million players check out poker every day. Poker rooms have gained wide popularity in part due to the massive coverage and exposure of poker via television, tournaments, land based casinos and the internet. It is in the best interest of the affiliates to design new marketing tools and methods for attracting new players.

Industry expert Lou Fabiano shares some thoughts about the future of the business and how the affiliates can develop new tools and programs to help spur growth: "There is no doubt that poker is hot right now and will continue to grow, in fact online poker operators are expected to rake in over $20 billion dollars annually by 2010. With the right resources and guidance poker affiliates can command an enormous part of that revenue stream."
