888 is the most visible online casino for American Internet users, according to a new study on Google searches.

The study, conducted by search engine marketing company Greenlight, found that 888 appeared on the first page of results in 70 percent of searches using casino-related terms on Google's US Website.

SpinPalace and Casino.com ranked second and third, appearing on the first page of results 62 percent and 55 percent of the time respectively.

Non-gambling sites Wikipedia and IMDB came in fifth and sixth, due to a significant presence on the Web in their own right. High profile brands Littlewoods, Stanley and William Hill only came in at eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.

The study, conducted in April, used casino-related terms such as "casino," "online casino" and "casino games."

It found that the most popular search term was the single word "casino," with a majority of 59 percent. Next in line were online casino with 10 percent, "casino games," four percent, "free online slots," "online slots" and "free casino games, all with two percent, and a host of other search terms with the remaining 21 percent.

The results are particularly meaningful when one considers that Google is by far the largest search engine on the web, with a current estimated 70 percent of the market share for US web searches.
