Lottomatica, Italy's national lottery company, remains the biggest single name in the country's gambling industry as it gets ready to implements reforms in the coming year.

Lotto and More

With 20 years experience in the field, Lottomatica is one of the world leaders in the gaming business, although it is perhaps best known for managing the lotto in Italy, continental Europe's third-largest gambling market after France and Germany.

In addition to the above, Lottomatica also provides other gaming services and products for games, plus systems to support betting on sports and horse racing.

The Rome-based company has made responsible gambling one of its key platforms in recent years, and in 2009 obtained certification of compliance with the best practice standards of the European Lotteries Association and the World Lottery Association.

Italy in 2011

With such a large economy and such a passion for gaming, Italy's online gambling industry has become a target for all the major operators since removing barriers to foreign operators earlier in 2010 in order to comply with EU standards.

According to recent reports the Italian government is preparing to issue licenses to online gambling companies in preparation for 2011, so that Italians will be able to benefit from sports betting, casino, poker and other services from a range of competitors.
