Rumors about the imminent release of a Sony Ericsson Playstation phone are now reality after the company aired a Super Bowl commercial to advertise its new Xperia Play.

Launch Set for March

The new device - which has a slide out panel featuring a video game controller instead of the usual slide out keyboard - was set to be launched to the public at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 13, but is now rumored to launch in March.

As the Super Bowl ad shows viewers, users will have access to the Android marketplace, as well as to a Playstation Game Suite. The device will run on the new Android 2.3 system.

How long until mobile gambling apps?

With so much hype around this device and speculation that it will compete with other major smartphones such as the iPhone and Blackberry, it is only a matter of time before we see the launch of compatible mobile casino, sportsbook and poker apps.

In late January William Hill became the latest company to launch a special mobile betting app for Android devices, with a free download available from William Hill Mobile to anybody running Android 2.2.
