Why Revisit the Gambling Cheating Scandal

American TV audience could see a rerun of a 60 Minutes report of a cheating scandal involving two high profile gambling sites this week. The original report was aired on the investigative newsmagazine last year. It was surely worth revisiting.

In the follow up to the show, we brought the words of Jeffrey Sandman, spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, who in an official statement said: "a different approach is necessary to protect consumers." Well, that has not arrived.

The reported scandals had the software running Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet tampered with. Players lost about $20 million as a result.

60 Minutes alerted that without legal recourse and legislative changes players can get cheated again. Although players were reportedly compensated, no police investigation followed and no charged were pressed.

Hence the relevance of the rerun and the importance of the Frank bill to address legal concerns and player protection.
