US Casino Players Allowed After All
It may come as a bit of a shocker to Americans, but the infamous UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act) of 2006 does not prohibit players from enjoying online casinos.
What does the UIGEA do then? Simply put, the UIGEA is an Act passed in 2006 which prohibits American online casinos, from offering their services to Americans. The wording is really important here. Because Americans have not been prohibited from gaming at online casinos the burden has been placed on online casino operators. Or rather on payment processors. In essence, the UIGEA prevents online casinos in the USA from accepting deposits through payment processors from Americans. Is there a way around it? Because Americans have not been prevented from online gaming, the online casinos have been resourceful enough to legally circumvent some of the rigid laws in effect. For the most part, many online casinos simply stopped offering their services to Americans. This is due to the difficulty of finding a reliable payment processor which can process deposits and withdrawals. The onus has clearly been placed upon online casinos and resourceful payment processing companies to team up and find the legal ways of engaging their American players. There is a great deal of optimism around with the new Florida Governor's pro-gaming stance, Representative Barney Frank's doggedness in overturning the UIGEA and Barack Obama's liberal Presidency. All cards are on the table, so to speak. |
It's not illegal for Americans to game online.
