Where Next for Full Tilt Poker?
Much has transpired in the online poker gaming world since the April 15th "Black Friday" saga of this year. It was on that fateful day that the FBI and the US DoJ seized multiple online poker sites and sportsbetting enterprises. The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) no doubt was up in arms about these shocking developments. Beyond the committees and commissions, it was really the players who suffered most. Poker has long been portrayed as a game of skill, luck and strategy. Online poker gaming has thus been perceived differently to regular online casino gaming. Therein lies the dilemma - what's good for one is surely good for the other - no? Poker stalwarts in the USA, including the erstwhile Barney Frank and other leading pro-poker advocates were pushing hard for recognition of this poker a skill game. Full Tilt PokerNow, but a few months later on, news has emerged that the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) has suspended Full Tilt Poker's license on a global scale. This doesn't bode well for players at FTP. The problem is that $100 million are potentially locked away with this gaming powerhouse. Even FTP pro Tom Dwan said he'd be willing to pay out $1 million of his own cash to players. After Full TiltFull Tilt Poker cannot accept new players, cannot pay out, cannot offer gambling/gaming activities. The exit of FTP from the world stage will see other big name poker powerhouses stepping up to fill the void. These include 888poker, PartyPoker, PokerStars and others. While the UIGEA in the USA forbids payment processors from transferring cash to gambling sites, European poker rooms are still safe for now. Euros over DollarsWhat's about to unfold is anyone's guess. But this poker pro feels that the safe money is on the European based gaming sites. At least there you're getting paid without getting played! |
