The game of online poker has developed quite a following with millions of people already playing and thousands joining with each passing day. Online gambling industry experts have recently set out to investigate the trends that have led to the widespread of poker. These studies have come up with some interesting and unexpected revelations in terms of demographics and the overall popularity of the card game.

A study conducted in the US revealed that 75% of all poker players play at least 3 times, while 39% play 5 times a month. The study also reveals that men and women play poker roughly the same amount of times a month. The study shows that 60% of men and 62% of women play poker up to four times a month. Things got very intriguing once these figures were broken down. When trying to ascertain which venue people prefer best for playing poker, the study indicates that 45% of all poker players prefer to play at online casino sites, while another 45% prefer playing in person with their buddies. Online casino sites account for almost half of the answers, which is quite staggering.

Surprisingly, the study shows that an overwhelming majority of women poker players prefer to play online. To be more exact, only 1 of every 6 women didn´t prefer online poker to regular poker. This statistic has lead experts to explore the ratio of women versus men on the net. Another study set out to examine if the game of online poker is gender bias has lead to the finding that 53% of all Internet gamers are women. This figure has taken the online gambling community by surprise.

Poker has always been considered as a game dominated by men. The fact of the matter is that women have established themselves as a major force. Experts predict that this trend will intensify in the coming years since the number of women players is only expected to grow.
