Korea Takes Center Stage in Support of Industry

The online gaming industry´s popularity has caught worldwide attention. The Internet gaming Industry is rapidly growing in Korea and the Korean ministry of information and communication, is seeking to develop the game industry as one of the nations top strategic Industries.


Korea is considered to be one of the highest-ranking developers of online games, and software globally. The Korean government has decided to help fund and support the industry. A financial plan has been already constructed and implemented on how much and where the money should be spent. Fourteen million dollars will go to the rapidly growing internet gaming industry in itself, eleven million dollars will help fund in the further development of net gaming technologies, and three million dollars will support in educating online game specialists, a plan to fight game addictions and a campaign to regulate the Industry´s support.


A study made by Ipsos-Reid in 2001 said that statistics showed that eight in ten internet users in South Korea, from ages 12 to 14 years of age would have played online games at least once this year.
