Casino Extention Plan Denied

The House discarded a plan that would of extended casinos operations on Indian reservations after Wednesday's upshot resulted in a 28- 25 vote.

The bill supported and advocated by Governor Jane Hull and 17 Arizona tribes, would have permitted more slot machines and "Las Vegas" style blackjack to be introduced by the tribes. The plan would have allowed the state full authorization to supervise the project and would have benefited from an 8% of the gross revenues offered. Wednesday's decision may have been motivated by horse and dog racetrack officials who were against it from the get go, which angered the governor, and resulted in a rally of support for the bill.

 The fact of the matter is that frustrated officials fear that an expansion of Indian Casinos may take away from their obtaining slot machines for themselves.  Hull said, " this bill wasn't defeated, it was mugged by track lobbyists who want casino gaming to spread off reservations." The governor continued by saying, " it was a sound policy for the future of Arizona. I trust the people to make the right decision at the ballot in November." As hinted, the issue may find its way back into voters hands in the Fall.
