Maine Voters Give Thumbstdown
Adjust font size:
The issue of legalizing casino gambling may have been evoked by a proposed plan to build a "Foxwood-style" resort and casino in southern Maine by two Maine Indian Tribes. Last week residents of York, Maine took to the voting booths on the matter of whether to legalize casino gambling in Southern Maine. Residents evidently dismissed the idea after an official election on Saturday resulted in 3,057 votes against the legalization and 767 in favor of legalizing casino gambling. Residents of Berwick had already been polled on the issue and they too tallied against the legalization resulting in a 302-172 count. The polling is expected to continue in other towns such as Eliot, North Berwick, Wells and Kittery. |
