Protesters seek Casino Certifications

However, those opposed to gambling have started to put the wheels in motion and have already appointed a lawyer who is investigating the matter under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) in order to get a hold of certifications regarding the present laws at the new casinos. At this time the appointed attorney, Cornelius D. Murray, represents a number of reverends and groups who are already in a lawsuit intended to stop more video lottery terminals at the Saratoga Equine Sports Center, the states involvement in multi-state lotteries and the growth of any more Indian casinos.

Mr. Murray noted that the new signed deal does not hold any requirements assuring the privileges of the labor workers at the casinos. In the interim, the attorney is in pursuit of finding any records that contain information about the current laws at the casinos and the sum of "liability insurance" the casinos need to have. Mr. Murray questions the investigative process, saying, "I'm not sure the documents exist, But a compact can't be enforced without them."

As the issue heats up, the governor has not as of yet made any remarks regarding the situation.
