Singapore Faces Online Gaming and Porn Addiction
Two and a half million people in Singapore game online and out of that number 30% are considered to be addicted to the "sport". Dr. Winslow, who heads CAMP, the Community Additions Management Program, said," We get many calls from people who tell us that they are losing control of their lives because of these addictions." A study of gaming addiction claims that except for children who are usually restricted by parents from heavy PC playing, all other ages are vulnerable to this addiction. In particular, the study revealed that online porno is prevalent amongst male teens and males in their 20's and 30's. The same was true for online gaming. Females in their 30's and 40's and also female teens were considered "chat" happy. According to Dr.Winslow, "In Singapore, people see us for help as the last resort because of the stigma attached." Further research is planned by CAMP to find the cause to this addiction and to possibly finding an answer to this problem as well as to why it is so prevalent. |
Gaming and Porn are hot addictions worrying psychiatrists in Singapore. Dr. Munidasa Winslow of the Institute of Mental Health is concerned about the fast pace that online gaming has taken.
