One online casino in particular saw the potential value of the publicity that could be gained by purchasing this holy sandwich. Religious icons occasional appear in various forms and attract a lot of attention in the process. And so this online casino, with a reputation for doing the outrageous, spent a large amount of money on a grilled cheese sandwich.

If you are familiar with some of the most well known online casinos then Golden Palace is probably a name you´ve already heard before. Aside from the great gambling they offer online, they also have a reputation for being a bit of a rebellious online casino that would certainly appeal to the young adult demographic. You may have been watching a sporting event like a game of gold, tennis or football when out of nowhere someone either partially dressed or no dressed at all comes streaking across the screen with a huge Golden Palace logo plastered across their back. There is a saying that no publicity is bad publicity and clearly this online casino subscribes to that idea.

Every gambling site usually has some kind of theme. Golden Palace online casino has cornered the online casino market for wacky and amusing publicity stunts. So when they recently purchased a grilled cheese sandwich at an online auction for $28,000 they were keeping in line with their image. But this was no ordinary sandwich; this was a sandwich that featured the image of a religious icon imprinted right on the face of the grilled bread. It is said to be the image of Mary. Religious icons have appeared from time to time in many shapes and sizes and on many different surfaces and materials and whenever they do they usually attract a lot of attention.

Diana Duyser, a jewelry-designer, was the previous owner of the holy grilled cheese sandwich. In fact she made the sandwich for lunch over Mary over 10 years ago. But she decided to sell it at an online auction when she realized its potential value. "You only get one shot at this," confided Duyser, an Ohio-born, Florida-bred Baptist wearing a custom made words "Passion of the Toast" t-shirt. "I'll miss her greatly because she was a comfort to me in times when it wasn't so easy."

When Golden Palace was asked why they made the purchase Steve Baker, chief executive officer of the site´s parent company explained that he expected "minimum value and we'd all get a laugh and a hoot about it. It's taken on more of a life of its own than we ever imagined. It represented something that we believed to be a piece of Americana pop culture."
