End of Year AwardsSummaries of the year 2006 are still taking place around the in the industry. As the new year begins and new projects launched, among them conferences and expositions, there is still some room for the traditional, annual award ceremonies. What makes an online casino the best in the competition? Well, the awards give us an indication as to what the industry looks for and appreciates in an online operation. These in turn can help operators in designing their sites in the future and gamblers in knowing what to look for in their gaming site of choice.

The winner of the best online casino awards for 2006 won mainly for the human aspect, the people behind it, as stated by the award giving committee. In an industry often cloaked in secrecy, transparency is welcome. Who is behind it, where it operates, its payout percentage rates and other aspects, once revealed to the gambling community, help gain its trust. Technical aspects that can be worn on the sleeve (software platform, licensing, third party approvals, etc.) are not always enough. Who the operators are and a close treatment of the players, including taking responsibility and even admitting mistakes when they occur is highly important.

Notably among the summary of 2006 were awards such as the Milestone Award. At this category, an operation that has been around for no less than 10 years received the award, signaling a milestone for the entire industry. Awarding its persistence and tough standing throughout the long and often turbulent years. Speaking of which, the industry as a whole received an award for Head in the Sand, accused for ignoring the US legislative efforts of the past years, leaving the industry vulnerable in these difficult days.
