After a year of competing at online gambling competitions for the $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the main event is about to open. This year, like in years past, it is Poker's biggest showdown. Unlike other sports or professional leagues, at the WSOP everybody has a chance to enter and compete, even to win!

The events will start Friday with a record number of events - 55 of them over 47 days. Another sign of the grand size of the event is the coverage it will receive on ESPN, a total of 32 hours, up from only single-digit totals in previous years. Prizes are also up considerably compared to past years, to a record 12 million dollars in 2006. We promise to continue updating you regularly on the action, the prizes and the winners.
