Online Gambling Exec Changes Guilty Plea

The former CEO of BetonSports, David Carruthers, has been charged with racketeering charges by a US court. He has spent the past 39 months in federal custody, held in a St. Louis, Missouri hotel.

After having already pleaded guilty and a few days ahead of the sentence ruling by the court, Carruthers has surprisingly withdrawn his guilty plea.

Operating BetOnSports, an online gambling company based in Costa Rica, has breached the US online gambling ban. Other Betonsports executives facing charges have pleaded guilty, which confuses matters when trying to understand Carruthers' move.

Carruthers was expected to be sentenced to 33 months in prison after reaching a deal with the prosecution in april, which would have likely have him released immediately, as he has spent a longer period of time in custody already.

A change of plea hearing has been set for 14 October.
