Suspicious betting over a first round match between Austrian Jurgen Melzer and American Wayne Odesnik, ranked 30th and 109th respectively, was reported on the site yesterday.

The match has attracted nearly $1 million in wagers, while the average for a first-round match at Wimbledon is less than $163,000, according to Betfair spokesman Mark Davies said.

Davies explained to Associated Press: Wagering on the match have soared after a TV commentator pointed out one of the players is injured. The sportsbook has reported the unusual betting patterns to the Tennis Integrity Unit, but does not suspect any wrongdoing.

A thigh injury, understandably, has shortened Melzer's odds significantly.
