The Godfather of Poker, also known as Doyle Brunson, qualified as a major contender in the first tournament in NBC's 2010 Heads-Up Championship. Brunson is considered nothing short of a legend in the poker industry. In the 60 years of his life that he has dedicated to poker, Doyle has earned an incredible ten WSOP bracelets.

Sixty-four of the world's most famous and popular poker players were invited to compete against one another in the Heads-Up Championship for a piece of the $1.5 million prize pool. The annual competition is a series of one-on-one No Limit Texas Hold'em matches. First place wins a cool half a million dollars and the event took place in Caesars Palace.

Among the contenders in addition to Mr Brunson, were a dozen WSOP champions and even Academy Award nominees.

Brunson ultimately went down in his head-to-head with Dennis Phillips in round eight of the tournament but won $75,000 for his efforts.

Poker enthusiasts will have their prayers answered for the next four Sundays when the illustrious event will be aired for two hours on NBC. The final instalment, in which Annie Duke is pitted against her long-time friend Erik Seidel, will go to air on 23 May.
