In an exciting turn of events, Titan Sports has been awarded the second ARJEL licence ever given out. The French gaming authority Autorite De Regulation Des Jeux En Ligne, otherwise known as ARJEL awarded the license to this Paris-based company recently.

The owners of the new licence are The Nation Traffic SAS - the owners of the Titan.fr domain name. The company is already in possession of an online poker licence from ARJEL. That was granted in late 2010 when Titan.fr joined world-leader Playtech's iPoker Network.

French Gaming Market

Previously theFrench Minister of Budget, Mr Jean-François Copé, established the 'Consultative Committee for the implementation of the monitoring policy of responsible games and gambling (Cojer).' This committee was tasked with guaranteeing the safety, integrity, accountability and reliability of online gaming activities.

Since then, there have been some exciting developments in France. In summary the French announced that they would open their market up to competition, in line with European Union obligations. The Budget Minister - Mr. Eric Woerth provided draft legislation for the regulation of the French online gambling market. Since then the momentum of the gaming market has remained steady.

ARJEL granted multiple licenses during 2010 - some 17 licenses to 11 gaming operators. These allowed for sports betting, horse racing and online poker gaming. The recipients have mostly been French companies but Austria's bwin, Canada's Everest Poker and the Maltese BetClic were also recipients. It was only the online poker providers who had to wait to ply their trade, while sports betting organizations and horse racing companies began in earnest.
