Online gambling in Denmark is now back on the cards according to Danish officials.

It is reported that the Danish Gambling Authority feels confident a complaint arguing against the legislation will be dealt with by the end of the year, opening up the Danish market from the beginning of 2012.

Unfair Competition Complaint

The complaint came from Denmark's slot machine associate as well as a land-based casino, Royal Casino in Aarhus. Both argued that charging online casinos half the online gambling tax that they are required to pay is unfair. Currently land-based operators pay 41% tax but the new law proposes a 20% tax for online operators. This, they argue, creates unfair competition in the market.

Decision Time

A decision on the complaint is overdue, initially being expected in June. It was then delayed further by the summer break but now that EC bureaucrats have returned to work the complaint will be receiving their urgent attention. The Danish Gambling Authority is signaling a resolution is in sight, much to the relief of local online casino operators and fans.
