The Gambling Dictionary
Entering an online casino, a poker room or any other Internet gambling site is like crossing into a new world in many ways. Although no passport needs to be stamped and even currency does not need to be converted, there is a new lingo to learn. Gambling terms, professional vocabulary, insider references and technical terminology are all listed in this section. Find the meaning of a new term you learn, scan for new terms you didn't know exist, or sort via the advanced tag search option for a variety of convenient browsing options.
E Early Position
Location near the beginning of the turn, among the first 1/3 of the table to take action. Edge
To have an advantage over an opponent is to have an edge. The online casino itself may have an edge against the player, as in the game of roulette, with the '0' and '00' slots on the wheel. Edge Odds
Ratio or percentage of a player's average winnings with a particular group (such as a weekly poker group with the same players) when compared to the average highest win of the group in total for any given number of sessions. Email Support
A customer service email address used to correspond with a customer support team regarding queries, problems or requests. Equity
Average amount of money that a particular hand would win if it was repeated multiple times. Even Money
A 1:1 odds bet. A $1 stake would return $2 dividend ($1 win plus $1 staked). Even Money Bet
As the name implies, this is a bet with 1:1 odds. Winning such a bet means the player gets back the same amount that was wagered, on top of the original wager. Exotic Numbers
Numbers or sets of numbers that rarely come up or are infrequently drawn. Expected Value
Measured either in positive or negative value, it is the statistical percentage a player can expect to win or lose from a bet. The expected value, mathematically calculated, in American Roulette is -5.26%. The meaning is that every dollar bet is expected to lose 5.26%. Exposed Pair
A pair that is visible to all players. Used in study or community cards games. |
