Champions League Round of 16 Summary: Prediction and Betting Tips

Published March 7, 2017 by Sol FH

Napoli vs Real Madrid and Arsenal vs Bayern Munich. The second leg action begins tonight at 19:45 GMT.

Tonight we will find out the two first teams to move onto the quarterfinal of the 3016/17 Champions League. Two huge simultaneous match-ups tonight featuring Napoli vs Real Madrid and Arsenal vs Bayern Munich. Napoli and Arsenal are the respective home teams tonight, but they both have a mountain to climb if they are to have any chance of winning. Napoli's chances seem a bit better after losing the first leg 3-1, but Arsenal's chances are very slim after losing the first tie 5-1.

Napoli vs Real Madrid

Los Blanos travel to Stadio San Paolo tonight for their second leg match against Napoli. Napoli struck first in the previous match, scoring an away goal before Real took over with scores from Casemiro, Benzema and Kroos. Napoli will have a tough time of dealing with the solid lineup that Zinedane Zidane has in store for them tonight, as Cristiano Ronaldo is back after a slight injury, and the Breaking news from this morning posted that Gareth Bale is questionable tonight. Although he is healthy, there is some issue there, but in the event that he does not play, Zidane will likely start Lucas Vazquez with Benzema and Ronaldo up front. They will be without a key defender in Raphael Varane, out with a thigh problem, but Zidane should be able to manage without him.

All odds are with Real tonight and the key to their victory would be preventing an early Napoli goal, while attacking Rafael Cabral's net. The Blancos have the chance of breaking their record for longest string of European matches without a loss, currently at 10, but Napoli have lost just one of their last 10 home matches in the Champions League and will make it difficult for Real to move on.

Prediction and Betting Tips

Real are in excellent form and should not only advance to the quarterfinals, but they should win tonight's match 2-1. If the final score does end 2-1 in favor of Real, bet365 Sports offers odds at 9.50 for the Correct Score. The UK sportsbook offers outright odds tonight in favor of Real at 2.37, while Napoli are not too far behind at 2.90 and a draw at 3.80.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich

The Gunners are in real trouble tonight after being crushed in the first leg at Allianz Arena 5-1. Even though they are at the Emirates, they have a 1-2% chance of advancing to the quarterfinals. To make matters worse for the Gunners, German  midfielder Mesut Ozil, is out with an illness. Arsene Wenger is not convinced that Ozil is healthy enough to play tonight, but says that he will be in their FA Cup match against Lincoln City this weekend. Wenger is still thinking about starting Alexis Sanchez tonight, but not going with him would be a terrible decision, if Wenger is really playing to win, as Sanchez has 20 goals this year and leads the team.

Arsenal has lost twice against Bayern at the Emirates in the Champions League in recent years, in 2013 and in 2014, but the German side have only won one match in the last six away games in the tournament. Bayern will be depending on Robert Lewandowski to continue finding the back of the net (six goals so far), but it is tough to score at the Emirates, especially when Arsenal is seeking revenge.

Prediction and Betting Markets

Arsenal have a good chance of winning tonight, but they will not move onto the next round. Embarrassing Bayern 4-0 or 5-1 will just not happen, so better play for the win and not to advance. Expect Arsenal to win 3-2. Bayern are still favorites going into the match tonight with bet365 Sports posting in their favor at 2.05. This is a good chance for bettors to take some extra cash with the underdogs at 3.50.
