Depleted Real Sociedad Seeks Rare Road Win Against EspanyolPublished February 8, 2016 by Florin P
Injuries hurt Real Sociedad and Espanyol ahead of Monday clash (7:30 p.m UK Time).
Real Sociedad and Espanyol were never expected to make it to the top of La Liga tables, but their performance this season is far below expectations. Just a few points separate them in the hierarchy, but the truly worrisome aspect is that both are just a few points above the relegation area.
Espanyol Extends Winless Streak
Espanyol denied Barcelona a chance to win on the road, but unfortunately that was the high point for the team that dropped five of the next six games. They played against Barcelona and Real Madrid at home, while traveling to teams threatened by the specter of relegation, therefore highly motivated to win.
Now the hosts are facing the very same challenges and another defeat against a direct counter candidate will only aggravate their misery. To make matters worse, manager Galca might have to find a replacement for its most successful striker. Caicedo has scored six games this season but he is doubtful ahead of this fixture and will probably be replaced by either Moreno or Perez.
Long Injury List for Real Sociedad
The visitors were just celebrating the return of their most prolific forwards, when they lost three more players to injuries. The list now includes six players, scattered across the entire team and the midfield looks broken ahead of this clash. Real Sociedad is not yet out of the woods and even though the team has the resources to avoid relegation, dropping more points tonight would complicate matters.
Real Sociedad has plenty of unavailable players, but its backline is intact and they’ve got Agirretxe fit to play upfront. Bet365 Sports offers tempting odds of 4/7 for a double chance wager, which means that punters win if the visitors are not defeated. Splitting points wouldn’t be the worst-case scenario for either team, so this type of bet makes perfect sense for risk-averse punters.
