The annual Responsible Gaming Education Week is held every year during the first week of August. It was developed in 1998 by the American Gaming Association (AGA) to promote responsible gaming and increase awareness of disordered gambling.

International Game Technology will join with the casino industry and other gaming companies across the nation in promoting the sixth annual Responsible Gaming Education Week Aug. 4-8. The event will feature the AGA's new guide to responsible gaming, designed to encourage players and/or customers to set personal limits when gambling and helping them to know when to stop.

"Keeping it Fun" is the theme of this year's industry-wide campaign. The AGA's brochure contains excerpts from Gambling: Choices and Guidelines by Roger Svendsen and Tom Griffin. It describes seven steps to help readers develop a set of personal guidelines for determining whether, when and how to gamble. It also includes characteristics of responsible gambling.

IGT also supports the AGA in other areas to promote responsible gaming. These efforts include the Responsible Gaming Task Force, funding for research through the AGA's National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), and distribution of the AGA's responsible gaming tools -- the Responsible Gaming Resource Guide and PROGRESS Kit -- to customers both in the U.S. and abroad.

The gaming industry believes that one problem gambler is one too many. While the industry has long made it a priority to keep employees, customers and the general public informed about disordered and under age gambling, Responsible Gaming Education Week puts the issues on the front burner.
