Nadal Wins Tournament - In Online PokerPublished January 29, 2013 by OCR Editor
Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was absent from Australian Open, but still ends up a winner
Serb Novak Djokovic this week won his third consecutive Australian Open tennis grand slam, but while he was taking all before him on the court, his rival Rafael Nadal was beating the competition on the poker tables.
Nadal wins poker tourney
Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal was absent from Melbourne through injury, but that didn't stop him from winning his first tournament on PokerStars since joining as a celebrity ambassador in June 2012. Nadal entered a €10 freeze-out tourney on PokerStars.es and defeated 47 players over two hours to win the €152.40 first prize.
Although this doesn't quite compare to the $50 million in prize money Nadal has won during his successful tennis career, there is no doubt his competitive streak crosses over to the online poker table. The man himself said he joined PokerStars because they understand what it takes to be the best.
Aside from Nadal, PokerStars' Team SportStars also includes German tennis legend Boris Becker, plus a number of European stars from other disciplines including Dutch field hockey Olympic gold medalist Fatima Moreiro de Melo and Swedish cross-country skiing Olympic gold medallist Marcus Hellner.
Big names from other industries have been involved with Team PokerStars in the past, most famously Jason Alexander of Seinfeld. All this shows that online poker is a game for everyone, whether a big celebrity, poker pros, or amateur players.
