Rugby: Wigan Goes for Third Straight Win Against Leeds

Fallen champions lock horns with Super League leaders on Friday (8:00 p.m UK Time).

Wigan is currently leading the Rugby Super League, two points clear of Hull. They took advantage of the runners-ups' inconsistency, to defeat them last week and take the lead. A victory over Leeds would guarantee the first place and given their current form, the leaders seem capable of winning again on the road.

A Catastrophic Season for Leeds

A quick glance at the tables will reveal the fact that Leeds sits in the last place with 12 points in 21 games. This is arguably the worst season for the reigning champions and they are unlikely to improve in the remaining rounds. Their performance both at home and on the road has been dismal, despite having a strong roster and many of the players that won the trophy last year.

They managed to win back-to-back games only to lose again at home to Widnes Vikings. Now they have an even more difficult task of defeating the leaders, a team that won 16 games this season. Wigan is riding a five game winning streak including two lopsided victories away from home. The visitors are motivated to extend Leeds’ misery after losing the trophy to them last season.

Payback Time for Wigan

Last week, Wigan chose to rest a couple of key players but they still managed to secure a narrow margin victory over Wakefield Trinity. With no injured or suspended players, they will throw everything they’ve got at Leeds, in an attempt to defeat them for the third time this season.

Wigan players are very motivated to win this match after losing the championship last year in dramatic fashion. This season they steamrolled past Leeds, winning twice and scoring a combined 68 points while allowing just 14. bet365 Sports offers odds of 4/5 for the visitors to win again and given recent results, these odds hold tremendous value.
