Backgammon is an exciting game and has been around for centuries. A considerable proportion of your success in backgammon boils down to luck. Having said that, however, there are various strategies and techniques to improve your chances of winning.
Games are usually quick and are played in matches with the first player to reach a certain number of points being declared the winner.
The basics
Before you start playing backgammon online should familiarize yourself with the basics. Players take turns rolling the dice and then choose from various options about how to move their checkers. There are certain rules governing how the checkers can be moved.
The objective of the game is to move all of your checkers around the board into your home board. After you have rolled the dice and are considering how to move your checkers, you also need to take into account possible all the possible responses by your opponent to minimize the risk of your checkers being blocked or hit. Once all of your pieces are in your home board, you can begin the ‘bear off' and the first to bear off all their checkers, wins.
But don't be fooled! You will be able to master the basics of the game fairly quickly. However, it takes much practice and study to become an expert.
Backgammon tactics
As with many games, your first moves are important but you usually are not faced with too many options. Your initial moves are essential to make sure that you are well positioned in the middle phase of the game.
