World Series of Poker
The World Series of Poker, also known as WSOP, is one of the most famous events in the poker world, itself one of the most popular games online.
The World Series of Poker is the largest set of poker tournaments in the world. Started in 1968, the event is held annually in Las Vegas, lasting about month, at the end of which over fifty bracelets are awarded to the winners of the various poker events.
The winner of the main event, the $10,000 no-limit Hold'em, receives a multi-million dollar prize.
With the big prizes, the growth of online poker, televised tournaments and the overall poker hype that has taken over the world in recent years, the WSOP has reached new levels of success and popularity.
Noteworthy among WSOP winners was Chris Moneymaker, an online poker player who was the first to come from the virtual game to the main stage and win the first prize (and a $2.5 million prize), in 2003. It was the final step in tying poker and its Internet version together.
