About The Game

7 card stud poker is a close cousin of 5 card stud poker and another variation of the popular card game. Until the arrival of Texas Hold'em in the 1970's, it was the most popular version of poker at home at at casinos. Also known as 7 card draw, this is a game more suited to masters of poker strategy and is also a very popular choice for players of 7 card stud online.

A notable difference between 7 card stud and other popular versions of stud poker is that there are no community cards. Each player receives all 7 cards and competes with others at the table to form the best hand.

How to play-7 card stud rules:

  1. To begin with it should be decided what 7 card stud poker rules are included. whether there will be an 'ante' or 'bring in' system of betting. Simply put an 'ante' is a minimum agreed amount that each player puts in the pot before beginning the game. This functions as a guarantee win for the best hand. We will continue with a 'bring in' style of game as this is by far the more popular form of the game.
  2. Each player is dealt 2 down facing cards 'the hole' and one up facing card. These are the 7 card stud poker starting hands.
  3. The player with the lowest value face-up card makes the first bet called the 'bring in' . Betting now continues to the players left with each player either 'calling', 'raising' or 'folding' their cards.
  4. Another card is then dealt face up known as the ;'fourth street' or 'the turn' followed by another round of betting with the player with the highest value up-card starting the betting. From now onward the player with the highest up-facing value card on each deal places the fist bet.
  5. A Fifth street is now dealt and all players again have another betting round. This is followed by a sixth card dealt facing up and another betting round.
  6. The seventh and final 'river' card is now dealt face down to each player and a final round of betting occurs and then proceed to the 'showdown'.
  7. The player who makes the best 5 card hand from the seven that they have been dealt wins the game.
