2018 in Jackpots: Big Progressive Jackpots That Marked the Past Year

With a number of big wins, including a brand new Guinness world record for the largest-ever online jackpot, we can already say that 2018 was very kind to players chasing big progressives.

Although there is still more than a month to go in 2018, we can already say that the past year was definitely a good one in terms of progressive jackpots. There has been a number of multi-million winners across the board, including the new record-breaking jackpot that created quite a hype in the online gambling world.

Mega Moolah Breaks Its Own Record

Microgaming's Mega Moolah is arguably the most famous online progressive slot out there. This fame, at least to some extent, stems from the fact the slot has set the Guinness record for the largest online jackpot in October 2015, when a British solider took home a staggering amount of £13.2 million (around €17.9 million at the time).

It took almost exactly three years to break this record but September 28 of this year, a new lucky winner finally did it, spinning the reels of Mega Moolah at just €0.75 a spin. The jackpot hype had been building for some time up to that moment and when the lucky spin finally landed, the player ended up winning €18.9 million, thus setting a brand new record and becoming very wealthy in the process.

Big Year Filled With Surprising Wins

The record-breaking Mega Moolah win wasn't the only big news in 2018 when it comes to progressive jackpots. Playtech's Jackpot Giant is somewhat infamous for landing infrequently (probably due to a smaller number of casinos offering the game), but a lucky player managed to finally break the dry spell in October of this year, winning $12.3 million!

Yggdrasil's Joker Million, a game that initially came out back in 2015, also had its day in the spotlight when it awarded a massive €7.8 million jackpot just a couple of weeks ago. It was a big day for the winner and Yggdrasil alike, as the company has once again proven they belong to the "big league" in the online gambling world.

Heaps of "Smaller" Jackpots

2018 has seen a number of comparatively smaller jackpot winners who padded their bank accounts with significant 7-figure sums. One of them was another Mega Moolah winner back in June, whose lucky spin came in when the main progressive reached just over $8.3 million.

NetEnt's Mega Fortune awarded a large €6,000,000 Mega Jackpot at the end of July, followed by a €3.4 million hit on September 28, 2018.

With these and quite a few more hits over the past eleven month (and more than a full month still to go), we can already freely say that 2018 was an exceptionally great year for progressive jackpot slots, with a number of big wins coming in, including the new Guinness record that we hope to see broken once again in the near future. After such an exciting year, we are very much looking forward to see what jackpots 2019 will bring.
