Barclays World Tour Finals: Djokovic Faces Goffin, Monfils out with Injury

Novak Djokovic to face Barclays World Tour Finals substitute David Goffin live today at 14:00 GMT.

In a surprise turn of events, David Goffin has made it to the Barclays World Tour Finals tournament taking the place of Gael Monfils after injury has forced the Frenchman out of the Finals early. This is good news for Djokovic now that he will be playing a "cold" player at this stage in the tournament, leaving him an easier route to the championship match. Not to take anything away from Goffin, but Djokovic is on a roll now and it looks like Andy Murray may be the only real competition for him.

Djokovic is by far the better player, but has only faced Goffin four times previously. Goffin is 0-4 against the world no. 2, but the Belgium tennis star was excellent in their last two matches in Cincinnati and Miami respectively. In Cincinnati, Goffin was excellent in the third set and in Miami the first set was his strongest. Djokovic has already clinched a spot in the Semi Finals so he may hold back a bit in today's match leaving the door open for Goffin to score some much needed points.

Djokovic was recently bumped out of his no. 1 ranking by newly crowned UK winner Andy Murray, but that ranking could be reversed if Djokovic prevails in the Finals. The prize money for the championship is also reason enough to win the Tour Finals, but for the best in the world like Djokovic and Murray, it's the pride that matters most.
