Rafael Nadal vs. David Ferrer, French Open quarter-finals, 10pm UK time.
Tennis enthusiasts worldwide are thrilled with the action unfolding in this year's French Open. Today's men's quarter-finals (10pm UK time) is a replay of last year's final when the two Spaniards, Rafael Nadal (World No. 1) and David Ferrer (No. 5) met. Nadal became an always favorite in the Roland Garros French Open, having won the grand slam year after year since 2005 with the exception of 2009 which was won by Roger Federer, already out of this year's competition.
Nadal is the king of clay courts and some have speculated that he might have a hard time at this year's French Open, seeing that he had lost three times on clay already this year - more than he ever lost on the surface before attending the Roland Garros. Nadal wiped out world the no. 83 Serbian Dusan Lajovic in three sets (6-1, 6-2, 6-1) on Monday to reach today's quarter-final. Today Nadal meets one of the players who beat him on clay earlier in April at Monte Carlo, David Ferrer.
To reach the quarter-finals, Ferrer eliminated the no. 19 South African Kevin Anderson 6-3. 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1. Ferrer lost 21 times out of the 27 matches he had against Nadal. Speaking on today's match, Ferrer gave credit to his fellow countryman, saying: "I hope that I will instill some doubts in Rafa's mind, but if we play at our best level, both of us, he will be a better player."
