BGaming has brought its WE CARE. WE ACT sustainability initiative to Portugal, combining recycled materials at SBC Summit with a beach clean-up in Lisbon and support for VIVA Lab’s plastic recycling and education projects.
BGaming has taken its WE CARE. WE ACT sustainability initiative to Portugal, combining its appearance at SBC Summit with environmental and community projects in Lisbon and Porto.
The iGaming content provider used the event to put more focus on recycled materials, reduce waste at its stand and support local organisations working with sustainability and education.
At SBC Summit, BGaming built parts of its stand using recycled materials and cut down on printed brochures. Visitors were instead given a single recyclable card with a QR code linking to digital information. According to the company, this helped avoid the use of around 16 kg of paper.
The same approach was used for the merchandise handed out during the event. Some products were made from organic cotton, while custom poker sets were produced from 100% recycled plastic, with more than 95% coming from post-consumer waste. BGaming also created carabiners using around 7 kg of recycled plastic.
BGaming’s sustainability work in Portugal continued after the exhibition.
Members of the company’s team joined a beach clean-up organised by the Lisbon Oceanarium. During two hours, they collected around 2 kg of plastic and 1 kg of cigarette waste from the beach.
The company also partnered with VIVA Lab, a Porto-based organisation working in education, recycling and practical sustainability projects.
As part of the cooperation, BGaming will support VIVA Lab’s Precious Plastic project and Plastic Play educational activities. Ten planned sessions are expected to reach up to 240 students, with approximately 60–70 kg of polypropylene plastic reused during the activities.
BGaming CMO Kate Puteiko said the initiative is meant to be more than a slogan, with the company looking for practical ways to support the places where it attends events and does business.
The Portugal project is not a one-off activity for BGaming. The company has regularly linked its appearances at major iGaming events with local community, environmental and creative projects.
In Lisbon in 2024, BGaming donated €10,000 to The European Intercultural Club to support its Urban Nature Project, which combined environmental education, cinema and creative learning for young people. The company has also supported a youth chess centre in Poland as part of its wider community activity.
Portugal has also played an important part in BGaming’s creative projects. During SBC Summit 2024, the studio worked with Portuguese street artist Gonçalo MAR as part of its “When Art Meets Gaming” series. The collaboration was also connected with support for local youth education and training initiatives.
BGaming has taken a similar approach outside Europe. In Brazil, the company joined forces with brand ambassador Jon Vlogs on an environmental campaign in the Amazon and donated €5,000 to Instituto Onça-Pintada, an organisation focused on jaguar conservation.
The studio has also repeatedly worked with local artists in the cities it visits. Its When Art Meets Gaming programme included collaborations with several international artists, showing that BGaming regularly combines industry events with local creative and community projects.
The new WE CARE. WE ACT initiative in Portugal therefore continues a pattern already seen across BGaming’s previous projects: using major industry events as an opportunity to support environmental, educational and community causes alongside its commercial activity.
