With the dismissal of the current California General Assembly next month hopes fade for online poker efforts in 2013.
Despite the positive progress made in the efforts to sanction online poker in the Golden State, it is almost certain that no legalization of online poker will occur in 2013. The reason for this is the upcoming dismissal of the current California General Assembly session in the 6 th of September. It is only in this assembly where the bills for the legislation of online poker can be voted on. The only way in which these bills can pass is the gathering of a special session of the assembly, something which is very unlikely to happen.
Infighting to Blame
Much of this can be attributed to the everlasting interior conflict between the different promoters of online poker bills - the lobbies of horse racing tracks, Indian gaming and California poker room just can't seem to come to an agreement which will satisfy all sides. The Indian tribes are deterred from the legislation of online poker mainly because of a fear that this will nibble at their revenues; there is also a worry that they, specifically, will be denied from offering online poker, as some bills have already offered.
California - A Potential Gaming Gold Mine
A positive step by Californian legislators towards online poker could play a vital role in the advancement of online poker and gaming in general in the rest of the states. California is the biggest state in the country. With a population of over 38 million residents, an online gaming market in the state could bring some gigantic profits.
