Chelsea vs Middlesbrough: Premier League Matchday 36
Published May 8, 2017 by Sol FH
The Blues with the chance to wrap up the season with a win tonight at Stamford Bridge against the Boro at 20:00 GMT.
Chelsea have an excellent shot at winning the Premier League tonight mathematically if they can beat Middlesbrough. They are currently out in front with 81 points through 34 matches, while second place Tottenham have 77 through 35. A win tonight would lock things up for the Blues, and if you take a look at the history of these teams' head-to-head record you would see that Chelsea have been perfect over their last six Premier League meetings.
Middlesbrough have not been able to score a goal in their last six Premier League draws against Chelsea, but even more terrifying still is that it hasn't been since 1975 when they last won at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have won the crucial games this season and Antonio Conte's side have already matched Leicester's finishing point total from their miracle league victory last year. The contrast between these teams is to the extreme. Boro will most-likely be relegated from the Premier League for a record-tying fourth time.
The fact that both teams are fighting for something, Chelsea for winning the league, and Middlesbrough from being kicked out yet again, is the recipe for an action-packed match tonight. In all honesty, Boro played very well in their last match against the Blues in November of last year, but ultimately lost 1-0. The visitors will be happy to know that Chelsea could be without David Luiz and N'Jolo Kanté, but Chelsea has been so good at home this year that it shouldn't matter too much.
