The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated poker contests of the year. Poker ace Dan Cates managed to rack up an impressive chip tally - the second highest in the history of the WSOP as he entered Sunday (Day 1B) of the WSOP.
Entry to the 2013 WSOP costs contestants $10,000. Dan Cates bested the competition as he pushed his starting chip stack of just 30,000 to almost 200,000 (closing on 190,000). A native of Maryland, Cates was thrilled with his performance on Day 1B. While Cates has performed immensely well in the online poker arena, his tournament performances in land-based poker have been few and far between. However, his incredible series of plays on the day thrust him into the limelight as one of the best poker achievements ever.
How the Day Unfolded for Cates
The WSOP Main Event has seen 2,885 players competing for their share of the poker pots. Day 1A, consisted of over 900 players and Day 1B featured 1942 players. By Monday, Day 1C, over 3700 players were contesting the WSOP Main Event.
