Germany DFB Cup Match Preview: Dortmund vs. Werder BremenPublished February 5, 2019 by Sol FH
Dortmund hosts Werder Bremen tonight at 19:45 in a key matchup in the third round.
The DFB Pokal begins its third round this evening with some matches across Germany. One of the key battles is between Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen. The last time that these two met was on the 15th of December last year where and Dortmund won that match 2-1. Werder has improved quite a bit since then, and they are battling around the middle of the table with a chance to jump ahead. Dortmund still leads the Bundesliga with 49-points, but they are coming off a disappointing draw against Eintracht over the weekend.
This match should feature two teams that are really going for the Cup win. Expect a lot of rotation for this match on the Dortmund side, including the integration of players like Pulisic, Wolf, and Hitz featuring. The lineup could be more from the first line, which would give Dortmund a big advantage of Werder.
Werder Bremen have had a consistent few weeks of play in the league, but mostly thanks to draws, gaining five points in their last three matches. In the first two rounds of the Cup, Bremen didn't have the stiffest competition, and they breezed past Wormatia and Weiche Flensburg. Bremen has a solid bench with the newly acquired American, Josh Sargent as a significant threat in the later stages.
