Horse Racing: Breaking Down the Royal Ascot 2018 Betting OddsPublished June 21, 2018 by Mike P
Royal Ascot 2018 is now well underway. With the help of 888 Sport, we analyse the favourites running in Thursday and Friday’s biggest races.
The final stretch is in sight for Royal Ascot 2018, but there are still plenty more races to come during the last two days. As one of the jewels of the British horse racing calendar, Royal Ascot has delivered a number of thrilling outcomes over the years. This year, Sir Michael Stoute had the honour of becoming the all-time leading trainer after seeing Poet’s Word defeating Cracksman when running in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes.
On Thursday, the action shall intensify as the clock ticks closer to the 16:20 for the Gold Cup. Stradivarius is widely viewed as the favourite runner, but is priced by 888 Sport as level at 2/1 with Order of St. George. Both runners have racked up a handful of first-place finishes apiece, so this could be a closely fought affair.
Later that day, the odds become longer and more favourable in the 17:20 Britannia Stakes, for which Crack On Crack On is available as the 15/2 favourite with 888 Sport. Meanwhile, George of Hearts is only marginally higher at 8/1.
King George V Stakes
The King George V Stakes will close the Thursday afternoon at 17:35, giving punters a last spectacle for the day. 888 Sport considers First Eleven to be the favourite at 11/2, but Cross Counter (7/1), Downdraft (7/1), and Communique (15/2) also appear to be within striking distance.
The Albany Stakes will kick off the Friday afternoon action from 14:30. Ahead of the race, Just Wonderful leads the crowd of fillies priced at 11/4 by 888 Sport. Just Wonderful won its own previous race, but could be contested by Fairyland at 3/1.
King Edward VII Stakes
Delano Roosevelt has a somewhat patchy record, having won only once in six outings. Nevertheless, the three-year-old has been made the 3/1 favourite for the 15:05 King Edward VII Stakes by 888 Sport, while Old Persian and Raa Atholl are both available at 9/2.
The Commonwealth Cup shall keep the momentum going when the race begins at 15:40. 888 Sport has made Equilateral at 7/2, having won two of three prior races. The key competitors are Sioux Nation at 5/1 and Invincible Army at 7/1.
Up next will be the 16:20 Coronation Stakes, which will see Clemmie compete as the 10/3 favourite, as priced by 888 Sport. However, Alpha Centauri could run Clemmie close with reasonable odds of 7/2.
The penultimate race of the day will be the 17:00 Sandringham Stakes, and the odds are quite close for this race. 888 Sport is offering Qazyna as the 6/1 favourite, but the trio of Ship of Dreams, Dathanna, and Ganayem are just behind on slightly longer odds of 8/1.
Duke of Edinburgh Stakes
Friday’s final race will be the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at 17:35 and shall feature a field of Class 2 runners. Dash of Spice has a handful of victories and second-place finishes, which is enough for 888 Sport to make this horse favourite at 5/1. Meanwhile, some of the other top contenders include Thundering Blue at 7/1 and Walton Street at 8/1.
